General
Purpose and scope
Shturm high-pressure foam generator (VPG) is designed to produce low-expansion foam from 1%, 3% and 6% foam concentrate solutions and supply it to a layer of oil or oil product under conditions of backpressure created by a fuel column.
Shturm VPG is commonly used as part of sub-surface fire suppression at tanks using special film-forming foam concentrates inert to oil and oil products.
Shturm VPG is made in the basic version with an air nipple. On request, Shturm VPG can have a back pressure valve on the air intake nipple, as well as be portable (easily removable fire connecting half-nuts are installed at the inlet and outlet of the Shturm VPG).
In terms of resistance to climatic effects, Shturm foam generators are manufactured in U, HL, UHL, T, OM modifications for placement category 1 according to GOST 15150-69. Ambient temperature range is from -60 ºС to +50 ºС.

- Avoiding the accumulation of condensate inside the Shturm VPG and as a consequence, the preservation of its operability at negative ambient temperatures (for the Shturm VPG with an air nipple);
- The possibility of horizontal and vertical installation at limited space when placing the Shturm VPG pressure units.

- the flow direction of the foam concentrate solution must coincide with the pointer located on the Shturm VPG body;
- The air inlet must be at the body bottom. If a anti-overflow valve is available, the air inlet must be installed in the body upper part;
- with a vertical installation, the air nipple should face in the direction opposite to the zone of possible presence of people;
- when determining the distance from the VPG Shturm to the tank, the total hydraulic losses through the foam line, the inlet pressure for foam nozzles, and the height of the liquid column relative to the allowable backpressure coefficient should be taken into account (it is recommended to consult with the manufacturer);
- To protect the VPG Shturm from the ingress of extraneous mechanical impurities and impairing its operability at the inlet, it is necessary to install a Tauer universal fire filter (PFU), TU 4854-012-72410778-07 with a mesh size of 4x4 mm.
