Full name: Firefighting Aquafom and Aquafom M type S synthetic foam concentrates free from fluorinated surfactants
Purpose and scope
Synthetic Aquafom type S foam concentrates free from fluorinated surfactants are an aqueous solution of hydrocarbon surfactants with stabilizing additives and frost-resistant additives. The mechanism of action of this type of foam concentrates is the isolation of a combustible substance with a layer of foam, the cessation of oxygen access to the fire and a decrease in temperature due to cooling the foam concentrate solution released from the foam.
Aquafom type S foam concentrates are used to generate foam of various expansion ratio and wetting agent solutions for extinguishing flammable liquids, solid combustible materials, fibrous and smoldering substances, to protect building structures, technological devices and stored materials from heat fluxes.
Aquafom type S foam concentrates are divided into:
- Aquafom, a synthetic hydrocarbon biodegradable foam concentrate. It forms the premix with fresh and brackish water. It is used, as a rule, for equipping fire-rescue general purpose units;
- Aquafom M, a special purpose synthetic hydrocarbon biodegradable foam concentrate with enhanced fire extinguishing performance. It forms the premix with fresh, brackish and salt water. It is used, as a rule, for equipping fire and rescue units at facilities associated with the treatment of flammable and combustible liquids, as well as for foam fire extinguishing installations when it is impossible to use film forming foam concentrates.
Aquafom and Aquafom-M modifications by volume concentration of foam concentrate in the premix and pour point:
- 1% with pour point from max minus -5 to max -15 ºС (only for Aquafom);
- 3% with pour points in the range from max minus 3 ºС to max minus 50 ºС;
- 6% with pour points in the range from max minus 3 ºС to max minus 50 ºС.

Fire extinguishing rate
The application rate of the Aquafom and Aquafom M foam concentrates premix for extinguishing fires with medium-expansion foam is adopted in accordance with SP 155.13130.2014 and other regulatory documents. When calculating fire extinguishing installations with foam of low-, medium- and high-expansion, the requirements of SP 5.13130.2009, sections 5, 6 and 7, annexes B and D should be taken into consideration.
The Aquafom and Aquafom M foam concentrates are biodegradable products and are capable of complete biodegradation. It is allowed to discharge the foam concentrates into industrial wastewater when diluting it with water to the maximum permissible concentration of surface-active substances (surfactants) of 20 mg/l (in terms of active substance).
