HIGH EXPANSION FOAM GENERATORS.
VERTICAL FIRE EXTINGUISHING

Pozhneftehim has been producing Favorit high expansion foam generators since 2010. The company provides comprehensive supplies of fire extinguishing units with high expansion foam generators (equipment + foam concentrate), as well as installation supervision, commissioning and maintenance at the customer’s site.

Favorit high expansion foam generator is designed to form air-mechanical foam from the aqueous solution of a foam concentrate.

High expansion foam generators are used in stationary fire extinguishing systems to fill the entire room to a given height with massive volumes of foam. The technology of local-volume (horizontal and vertical) and volume (vertical, cubical or three-dimensional) fire suppression prevents air access to centers of ignition in the protected areas, since high expansion foam is supplied to localized fire and fills the entire room.

Advantages of Favorit high expansion foam generator

  • Flow range from 50 to 1000 l/min at inlet pressure of 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, 0.9, 1.0 MPa in any combination.
  • The rectangular shape of the foam generator allow to place it above the protected volume, taking into account crane beams, trusses, columns, etc.
  • The foam generator is equipped with a standard bracket (optional).
  • The filter at the inlet of the foam generator provides protection against foreign matter from the piping not protected by fire filters.
  • Double welded joints in accordance with GOST 16037.
  • Corrosion-resistant coating of the casing and collector with powder enamel (thermal coating polymerization method).
  • A test report is provided. The customer can attend the tests and make sure that the foam generators meet the required specifications.

INTEGRATED SUPPLY

Pozhneftehim produces more than 120 modifications of high expansion foam generators (by model, flow rate and pressure). The company offers a comprehensive solution: the packaged supply of equipment, foam concentrates and proportioning systems, as well as auxiliary fire equipment. Pozhneftehim also provides installation supervision, commissioning and after-sales service at the customer’s site.

FAVORIT FOAM GENERATOR APPLICATION AREA

Favorit high expansion foam generators are used in systems for cubical fire extinguishing at industrial and production facilities. The use of S-type foam concentrate (medium and high expansion ratio) or AFFF (low, medium and high expansion ratio) is required. It is economically feasible to choose a synthetic foam concentrate for fire extinguishing installations with high expansion foam.

TESTS AND QUALITY CONTROL AT THE HYDRAULIC TEST STAND

As part of the production unit of Pozhneftehim-Detal, there is a hydraulic test stand, which allows for the development of new equipment samples and quality control of products as part of fire extinguishing systems.
Pozhneftehim annually conducts demonstration tests of equipment for participants of our Advanced training courses. In 2019, the Favorit high expansion foam generator was tested with foam filling a volume to a height of 15 m. The generator demonstrated the expansion ratio of 700 (coefficient for height 1.5).

General specifications of the Favorit high expansion foam generator


SELECTING FIREFIGHTING INSTALLATION WITH HIGH EXPANSION FOAM GENERATORS

Vertical fire extinguishing installations are used to extinguish saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons (heptane, gasoline, etc.), water-soluble alcohols (C1-C3), sparingly soluble and water-insoluble alcohols (C4 and higher). The regulatory rationale for choosing high expansion foam is based on Section 6 of SP 5.13130.2009 “Fire Protection Systems. Automatic fire alarm and fire extinguishing units. Norms and design rules. " Also, the norms provide for equipping the embankment of LPG isothermal tanks with high expansion foam generators. Fire extinguishing units with high expansion foam are used in rooms with equipment or machinery located inside, up to 15 m high. It is advisable to choose high expansion foam if complex equipment is installed in the room, there are significant shaded spaces, and pipelines are densely located. The room should not have open apertures that cannot be covered with metal mesh or structures. High expansion foam fills cavities into which it is impossible to supply foam of low and medium expansion.

Fire extinguishing units with foam generators of high expansion must be equipped with filtering elements on the supply pipelines with a filtering cell size smaller than the minimum size of the nozzle outflow channel, according to clause 6.3.1.8 of SP 5.13130.2009. The Tauer fire filter manufactured by Pozhneftehim is used as part of fire extinguishing systems of any expansion.

Determination of the estimated volume, calculation of the number of generators in the fire extinguishing system with high expansion and other calculations are carried out in accordance with the requirements of Appendix G SP 5.13130.2009. The maximum time for filling the protected volume with foam is taken no more than 10 minutes.
